Brookfield Properties has commissioned Plan Group to spearhead the $4.6 million Stage 2 expansion of Portside Wharf. The ongoing enhancements include improved river views and access, additional outdoor dining pavilions, a new pick-up and drop-off zone, upgraded landscaping, increased seating, and enhanced wayfinding signage. These upgrades are designed to create a more engaging and accessible environment for visitors of the riverfront village.
The major redevelopment of Portside Wharf began in November 2022 with a total investment of $20 million. Stage 1 was completed in late 2023. The architectural design by Jackson Clements Burrows for Stage 2 complements the recent improvements, preserving the neighbourhood’s charm while highlighting its connection to the Brisbane River.
Brookfield Properties Executive Vice President, Lee Butterworth, assured that the precinct remains open during the construction. “We are collaborating with Plan Group on a ‘business as usual’ approach to ensure seamless trade continuity and easy access for customers and visitors,” he stated.
Hamilton’s Northshore is set to play a significant role in the 2032 Olympics as the athletes’ village, subsequently transforming into a high-density residential zone with 14,000 dwellings for over 24,000 residents.
The destination has recently welcomed new retailers such as seafood restaurant Fosh, French bakery Rise Bakery, yakitori bar Bird’s Nest, artisanal gelato store Rosé Gelateria, modern sushi restaurant Choo Choo, and Chinese restaurants Uncle Wangs and Sugee Ramen. Upcoming additions include bubble tea bar Temple Boba, gastropub Portside Social, wood-fired bistro Sbagliata by chef Ashley-Maree Kent, and Australian first baseball entertainment concept The Ballpark Portside.
Leasing opportunities are still available in Gallery House and Rivello. “The revival of our riverfront village has seen retailers and locals embrace its new vibe and emerging reputation as a thriving dining and shopping hub,” Butterworth said. “With over 12,000 square meters of retail space now leased in the main precinct, Stage 2 presents exciting opportunities for businesses to benefit from our prime riverfront location, serving 4,000 residents and 1,500 local workers.”
